Tis Time for a March 2020 Hatch-a-long!

Had my first fatality. I think it was a male chick because his comb was well defined and the other chick that hatched last night who had the same comb is a male.

I think he turned the wrong way and suffocated. He pipped but then when he turned again he turned wrong. I didn’t see any breathing but my husband said to let it do its thing. Hours later no change and sure enough it was dead 😢

Sorry to hear that :(

The air cell seems to be growing, not moving. I'm going to prop it on its side air cell up and hope for the best. I have them in an upright turner. It's just a weird guy.

Yep, mine is the same way; growing and not moving. I have been tracing the air cell and will try to position it receding side up as well as I can. I like this above idea of using a piece of toilet paper roll or paper towel to prop it.

I think I’m trying to make myself feel better by saying it was a male. I really think it was and I will continue thinking it was. So his fate would have been the same in 3 months, just sucks that it happened before it got to live a little.

I have one more egg that has pipped. I did check that one and it’s alive and chirping. Will not be helping it hatch unless I don’t see a break or progress. But it looks full of energy with that high pitch chirp earlier.

After that last pipped egg there are 4 left, 2 olive eggs and 2 white eggs. I candled them and one I didn’t see movement and one I did. I couldn’t tell on the olive eggs. When should I throw the towel? It will be day 23 tomorrow.
