Tis Time for a March 2020 Hatch-a-long!

Ok I was wondering what those holes were and my husband came up with the idea for the duck tape.
they allow air to be exchanged in the incubator and you do not want to close them up because there will not be sufficient air for the chicks.

I wouldn't really listen to them saying that they had bad hatches because it could have just been the eggs that they were using or something that they were doing that wasn't correct.

Have you ever hatched Polish eggs, do they hatch earlier than 21 days? I don't no why I'm asking this now because I never put any thought into it until today 😂 I'm so used to doing chicken eggs from my farm and them hatching on 21 days. Today I had some miraculous thought that maybe these hatch early because they're bantam
I've hatched them several times, and they work exactly like all other eggs. I don't have any experience with bantams, but I've done polish and faverolles (also teeny eggs), and there's no difference between them and larger breeds.

Ok I made sure the duck tape wasnt completely closed when it was applied. And my husband has called me crazy for checking on the temperature and humidity every 4 hours or so bc I'm nervous and I want to make sure I can catch a problem before it gets bad

I just checked my records from last season to be sure I was telling you the truth, and my polish were 6th and 15th out of their eggs (out of 20).

ETA: That hatch included all egg sizes: Jumbo (55 flowery), X-large (olive eggers), Large (Marans), and medium (CCLs and EEs), in addition to the Small (SF) and Peewee (polish). Everyone was all over the place, no discernible relationship between size of egg and hatch order.

So Polish are not bantam?

I'm so confused. This is the only chicken that I am so confused about it's not even funny. I'm just hoping that these are her eggs because I will be very disappointed if they aren't 😂 I want more polish like her

I used to call her Midget Chicken or Mini 😂

I would take it off completely. I threw away the plugs that came with my incubator for those holes because I leave them open to give sufficient air exchange

She is a beauty! To add to your confusion, I always thought there were both standard and bantam polishes. Maybe there is a cutoff weight you could look up to help determine which she is? If you can get her to let you weigh her.

My understanding is that they come in both standard and bantam sizes. I've only dealt with standard, which are tiny, but not bantam-tiny. Do you know for sure yours is a bantam? I've heard those can go a little bit earlier.

That is one cool looking chicken!

😂 You want to come catch her... Basically this chicken was never handled when I got her and slowly we have been trying to get her used to us. Last time I had to handle her was because she got attacked by a bird of prey and I had to check her. My hand was a bloody mess after from her scratching me. That was pulling her from the roost too. Now you can see why the bird of prey didn't leave with her.

She will eat treats from me though. I threw goldfish crackers down to her the other day and she loved them 😂
