Tis Time for a March 2020 Hatch-a-long!

Pics
Candled my shipped eggs today and I have 18 that are developing and doing well. They all seem to have developed saddle shaped air cells some worse than others and I am going to add water to prevent them from losing more weight than they have already. But they look right on track for day 10 babies. And boy were they moving. Little beanie babies jumping all over in the eggs. I have a few that wouldn't move so I'm a little worried about them but most of the eggs were acting like they were dancing around at a disco. With the early quitter I pulled that would be 80% fertility though so that's pretty good for shipped eggs. At least it's good compared to the ones I've gotten in the past.

My leap year eggs I moved into the hatcher. They started day 15 tonight and are right on track. I will try not upping the humidity for them and see what happens. I haven't had any water in the incubator running around 20% humidity.

So, here is the air cell and what I think is an embryo...View attachment 2034361

And here is what I think could be another embryo?? Or SOMEthing? Lol

Hmm...I don't know what that dark spot is. I recently started to think that meat spots might actually prevent eggs from even starting to develop entirely. I think that the air cell will right itself enough during development that you won't need to worry about it as the chick grows. Definitely keep updated on this one though. I'm very curious about what that dark spot is.

Why not I think we all started with eggs in February and just continued on to another one. What are you hatching?

Most likely chickens but maybe ducks

I'm incubating eggs from a friend because I didn't have a roo but now I do so I will incubate a few of mine but not too many because I want my flock bigger but not inbreeding because I want to in the future hatch from my own flock then only keep a few of the girls I hatch and not hatch those eggs

You can hatch eggs from related birds. Lots of breeders do it holding back girls from hatches to add back with their father or breed brother to sister.

Oh I would think they would be deformed or something but also I currently only have 1 laying hen, 1 non laying hen and 1 gentle roo I first got chickens last March that's why I have so little

Interesting! I will definitely be keeping a close eye on this one. I originally wasn't sure about candling between D10 and D18, but now I'm thinking about a candle on D14 at least for this guy.

My nerdiness is itching to figure this out! Lol.
