Tis Time for a March 2020 Hatch-a-long!

Can anyone tell me when white crested polish start laying? I have 2 that will be a year old in April and they aren't laying. They are separated from the rest of the chickens so I know for sure they have never laied.

And look everywhere for their eggs because I've heard of some not laying in the nesting box and hiding their eggs under leaves.

I was trying to see if there was any interest in the mule duck eggs. I haven't seen any online for sale and since my guys are being pretty successful in their breeding, I thought I'd try to sell some. Only 1 bantam is currently laying and I only have 1 full sized hen after preditors, hence me hatching a bunch of eggs. I need to build up my chicken flock again.

Wish you were closer. I'd love mule duck eggs. They're good to start a flock if you don't want offspring and have really good meat from what I've heard.

That's just too much trouble. Lol. Saying an egg is a live animal is a stretch anyway. I'll just stick to craigslist and maybe ebay.

Are you NPIP certified? To ship out of the state I think you have to be

Northwoods Poultry located in Florence, WI. She is super nice and has the cleanest barn for her chickens that I have ever seen. She doesn't list splash as a possibility when hatching her Ameraucana eggs, but by understanding of blue genetics is that you could get blue, black, or splash hence BBS. All of her birds are gorgeous, I could have spent so much money there but my husband was there to reign me in

I'm also dying for some Ameraucanas (or even just EEs with muffs and pea combs!). I had one several years ago, but she's not with us anymore. I've hatched some EE eggs every year since she died, and only gotten males. This year I asked for some ameraucana from two different sources that were selling blue eggs and who said they had ameraucanas - and each source gave me legbars instead! I love legbars, but I'm still a little disappointed. Oh well . . . gives me an excuse to hatch again next year, right?

Oh no! Legbars are awesome but I’m a sucker for those puffy cheeks too.

What is a candy corn polish??

It's a polish with buff, black, and white barring. People are working on getting the breed recognized. They are very pretty

I'm not right now. I've received eggs from non npip people and sent eggs. You are supposed to be though and I was considering getting it again to post on ebay. It's one of those rules no one really enforces and not everyone follows.

My babies are peeping, so they aren't silent yet. My muscovy drake is pretty quiet. With the drake being a muscovy, females are not supposed to lay. Everyone should be infertile. When the hens are muscovy, then the females might lay but everyone is still infertile.

I am incubating BBS ameraucana! Very excited and looking to order a couple more colors I'm in love with the fluffy cheeks and pretty eggs, what can I say!

I'm checking again tomorrow, but I think 3 of my 5 lavender orpington eggs are not fertilized. Is this typical of all orpingtons early in the year or????

Yes, we trimmed near our English orpingtons vents. The biggest egg in the incubator is from our splash English orpington hen. We could barely fit it in the slot! She is older and not laying eggs as much so we are hoping that one hatches

Hmm, I may need a lesson in chick hatching math this month...I have 12 Olive Eggers and 4 Sebastopol goose eggs in incubators already and I'm waiting to pick up 2 dozen BBS Marans, 1 Dozen Ayam Cemanis, and 1 Dozen Bantam Buff Cochins. That's 60 chicken eggs and 4 goose eggs. I will just barely be able to fit all of these eggs in the 4 incubators I have running Maybe I need to set the Hovabator back up too? lol
