Tis Time for a March 2020 Hatch-a-long!

My remaining egg out of my doomed batch (5/6 clears) is a quitter. :( I’m guessing by the size and development around day 11-12 or so, but it’s brain wasn’t in its skull. Anyone else ever see anything like that before? I could still see small vessels when candled so left it alone for a couple of days, but when no growth was apparent and there was a funky feathered shadow upon candling again, I cracked it. :( I didn’t have a great feeling about those eggs to start with so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised... good thing I’m picking up Icelandic eggs tomorrow and silkies sometime over the weekend! 🤷🏼‍♀️
(Edited for autocorrect nonsense)

Still nothing on my little pip. So tempted to just chip a tiny bit back like along the zip line but I don’t want to pull the egg out and risk drying the membrane more.

Took a quick tap/listen/candle on unpipped eggs while I was weighing my D7s:

The BBS Marans, Opal Legbar, and an Olive egger are all showing movement but no internal pip. But happy to report that everyone else has an internal pip into the air cell! They are in there all having conversations with Billy, who might be the yappiest chick I've ever hatched.

Just fingers crossed that none of the moving-but-not-pipping eggs are a malpo! :fl

On the D7s, once again, everything except the marans is doing just fine. I'm pulling one marans egg tonight although I suspect two more past this are clear/blood ring. Which will once again leave me with exactly one in my hatch.

These Marans are so finicky!!

I have a good feeling about this one hatching for you. If you see it pecking repeatedly at the pip site but not unzipping that might be a sign that it's stuck. On the other hand since it's the only one hatching you could technically do an assist with no detrimental effects to other chicks from opening the incubator. Just be prepared that if you do it may still be a lot of waiting and reapplying coconut oil, etc.

The thing with Marans and taking their sweet time I see the pip hole turn yellow often but once they start to zip it's not so bad. Oh, I found a good picture for an example.

This picture makes me feel so much better! It isn’t pecking at the pip hole like it’s trying to get out...I think I’ll sit on my hands until tomorrow morning at least.

I’m scared of smothering it since there’s only a little crack in the membrane it’s breathing thru...
I mean like, if you decide to remove a smidge of shell. I just dab a bit with a q-tip. It's why I like using neosporin instead of an oil or water - you can control how much of it goes on!
