Tis Time for a March 2020 Hatch-a-long!

He doesn't know about the financial side of the chickens...well with exception of the coop and run, lol, but that's in the past. :lau
I sell chicks in order to buy more eggs and because I usually only keep a few chicks for myself it usually works out! I had to hatch all year last year but it paid for my incubators. I'm not making a bunch of money but it seems to be a hobby that I can keep it paying for itself.

Aaaand as long as her Silkied Cochins keep laying I've confirmed Silkied Cochins for Easter! :love
I haven't sold any of mine this year yet but I need to!

I have a funny turkey story. I had a male and female turkeys big brown ones. I got from feed store. The boy we called Billy had a really big chest. I had .25 area just for the chickens and he would be on one end of the fenced area. You could bend over to do something and stand up again and he would be right next to you. You would never see him clear that distance it was always a mystery. Also if you were out there squatting to build something he would put his chest on your back. But he was nice. He and his girl friend could not breed for some reason. (with girl turkeys guys get there one chance at the deed. If they get it wrong, they just stay friends.) But I bought a tiny bantam hen chick and let the big guy raise it. He loved that chick, and sometimes a regular hen might come by to beat it up he would chase her down. the bantam would stand between his legs. One time a female turkey that was wild came by to romance our tom, I don't know if she found a diff male or ours did the deed, but not long after she came out of the woods with babies. She walked past our male he looked proud so maybe... When I went to check the nest, she had walked away from one egg. I took the egg in the house, i don't think I had home made incubators at the time, it may have just been a fish tank and a light bulb. It took 5 more days for the one egg to hatch. It was a boy. Fish and wild life guy said..."If the turkey is walking about free, it is ours, if it is behind a fence it is yours.
Wild boy turkeys are not as nice. He few off after roosting on our fence.

Wild turkeys are mean. When we lived in New Hampshire we had a whole flock of wild turkeys that would come to our house everyday and they would chase my dog 😂 it was the funniest thing. they never messed with my dad's dog though because he was a hunting dog that was trained to hunt birds. He tried to get a few 😂 I miss that dog so much
