To anyone who has had a mean roo

Quote:
Reading your page on rooster aggression was very helpful. Our roo is becoming much the protector of his flock now that he is 16 wks old and I will probably be trying the "hold and carry" trick now. He is getiing very "cocky". So thanks for the helpful page.

I have 5 bantam roos, and only one is aggressive toward me. He's a Sebright and a total spaz! So whenever I have to bring him in for the night I'm forced to corner him in order to catch him. He shies away most of the time, but there have been times when he gets "brave" (or just scared) and pecks at me. And he's not even 10 weeks old yet!!!!

Reading this entire thread has definitely solidified my decision to get rid of my SLW cockeral. I just can't take the chance that he might attack one of my grandchildren. So far, at 17 weeks, he hasn't shown any aggression toward humans, but that could change overnight and I would never forgive myself if he attacked one of my babies. Thanks for all the insight.

I have a RIR who is about 5 months old and he's one mean bugger! We call him Peckerhead cuz that's what he acts like. I've been flogged a couple times (thanks for explaining that term!) and tend to carry a small rake with me when I'm out because he respects the rake. My sheltie is terrified of him and doesn't even like to go do her business during the day because she's afraid he'll come runnin'. He's flogged my Bernese Mountain dog and the Berner tries to fight back, but I'm afraid he'll do damage to Peckerhead before we're ready to send him off to freezer camp. Peckerhead's not a meaty enough bird yet to butcher, IMHO, but we definitely want to eat him! Darn bird comes up to the house and crows through the windows to get us to look out and talk to him. He's a character for sure, and he's always ALWAYS got something to say. He serenades us at the window sometimes, too. He fusses when we pick him up, but once we have his wings plastered to his body, he doesn't struggle and will just look at ya and occasionally make singing sounds. Thankfully his spurs are still little nubs and not too painful. I don't think I want another roo around here, but ya know, I'm guessing he thinks he's protecting his girls.
