To be home on hatch day....

I too understand if this is one of your first hatches.
Sometimes I hatch weekly, I never assist. If I have provided optimal incubation and hatching conditions up to my ability, if they don't pop out on their own, I don't want to reproduce birds that need help to hatch.

Is that because they will likely fail to thrive or that future offspring will need assistance as well or a mix of both?

When I had a good job, I didn't want to be the one to educate my employer that they could get by without me. Jobs disappear all the time.

I understand the point, but I know that they will only get by w/o me. Just like we only get by when others are out. We only thrive when all are there. And my work is good about giving the time off to people....it's better to have some short term struggle than burned out employees.

Shipped eggs though may need a little help sometimes because they were tossed about in shipping, not necessarily because of some genetic issues or predisposition, IMO.
