So I have 2 chickens.
Today I put the ducklings outside all day.
And I stayed out here in the back chaperoning the inmates.
The other ducks have no problem with the ducklings. And in fact they are very curious about them. Its actually quite interesting to watch the reactions and see how they'll all suddenly become alert and look at them.
But the 2 chickens cannot leave them alone.
I didn't allow them to get close enough for any kind of pecking or whatever. But constantly they'd wait a few minutes and then try to get into their pen. This was happening constantly, probably more than a dozen times today.
Should I take this as incompatibility? Or could it be something else?
Maybe some of you have dealt with things like this? How'd it go when you did?
Its also quite fascinating that one of the peking girls all day has been honking and looking over the fence into the duckling pen. (I'm not sure what to make of what she thinks. But it does seem to be not negative.)
Some of the other adult ducks keep trying to poke their bills under the partition into where the ducklings are out of curiosity also.
Its fascinating to see all of this going on.
But yes, I'm trying to figure out, does this mean chickens are incompatible with ducklings?
This has far reaching effects also because there's more regulation on chickens. So I can do more with ducks long term. But at the same time chickens are easier to feed and seem to have more forage ability (at least outside of wetland areas).
