Hello all!
Got some welsh harlequin, Cayuga, and mallard ducks. They went all broody and I let them. The male welsh and mallard were schtuping everythingwth a feather and a welsh and Cayuga female each were sitting. I was just going natural with the hatching until I found a dead duckling. So I took all the eggs i was thinking they were about due. So literally the first day one started to pip. It took about 28 hours to hatch. Then the next one was about 24 hours later so after about 3 days we have 7 hatched.
I have to say I read a bunch as this is the first time I have incubated eggs. I broke most of the rules so I feel really lucky!
I opened it a million times no lockdown and i assisted one in hatching,etc..
the eggs were dirty poopy but I didn’t want to wash them and remove the coating and had one pipping so I tried to leave it shut and it doesn’t seem to bother them after hatching. But it is stinky!!
My question is I have a few eggs that look dead after candling.i can see a beak and feet but no movement. Should I discard It? Don’t want an explosion.
I also have 3 that are not verydeveloped but I see a heartbeat . So I may be at it awhile
Also I have put the male welsh and mallard outside the pen because they were constantly beating up/violently mating on the females. I expected they would go to the pond once outside but they do nothing but sit at the fence. Any ideas?the poor little female mallard was on deaths door the back of her head and neck was bald. I bought the mallards as ornamentals along with 2 geese and they don’t want to leave the others. Any help is appreciated!
