Here's the deal we need to expand and secure our chickens better come spring, right now they are in a "large" (what a joke) coop. We would like to get them into a bigger easier excess style home. Hubby just wants to buy a plastic style shed 7x7 size$900 not including having to modify the inside for their comfort

. or he will just get another premade coop that would make life easier $1000+ but maybe a little larger than what we have rolling now

. I would like to know if it would be a better investment/cost effective to build our own. maybe not 7x7 but still bigger than what we have rolling now. we do plan to do an enclosed dog kennel w/roof for their outdoor area attached to whatever we choose. Is it possible to make something under $1000 that is nice and secure? TIA for your input.

The good thing about building your own, is the ability to plan it exactly as you would like. However, you may quickly find yourself compromising on your ideal plan in order to save money.
Some people are really good at finding salvaged materials and build great coops for very little money. I would browse through the coop section for ideas, and remember, always build it bigger than you think you need!
Good luck and have fun!
