To Cull or Not To Cull?

Sadly, she died last night. Poor little thing put up such a good fight, but it was just not meant to be... :(

So sorry. :hugs

Do you feel better that you didn't have to do the deed, or do you wish you had gone ahead and done it when you figured she wasn't going to make it? That's the tough part for me, the decision itself. I have a pullet now that needs to be culled. I know it, but keep wishing that she won't make me actually do it. That she will just pass on her own.
Young chicks do get easier, this older pullet I'm struggling with. :(

I wish I did not make her suffer a day longer than necessary, but there is no way I could do the deed. Someday I need to learn to cull, but I think this time I would have spent the rest of my life wondering, "what if she had a chance...?"

I really feel for you and your pullet... I bet it's a more agonizing decision than for a newly hatched chick.

Thanks to everyone here for their support, this is such a great community.

Aww... this one was really emotional for me too :hit. I get really emotionally invested watching a hatch.
Yeah I do too, you spend so much time getting excited and nurturing the eggs and become quite attached! I think that particular chick was so hard because I had only one fertile egg out of 12 SLW and then it died at 1day old. It must have been from bad lines because I also had 12 eggs from another breeder in the incy and 10 of those hatched. I still really want a SLW!

I saw a SLW recently, they are so pretty. I had a GLW and she ended up hurting her leg from flying off a high roost, the way I fixed the roost, was made it so it was not a straight shot flight from the roost to the ground, now they have to hop to lower roosts before they get to the ground.
