To Dye or NOT to Dye,...THAT is the Question,...

I to am a redhead that is turning white around the edges. I'm only 28! I have been dying my hair since my late teens. I have a girlfriend who has a beauty shop and comes over to the house and does my hair. (I have way too many kids to be trekking to her)
Anyway we use dye from a box and to keep my hair from drying out I use PINK spray and once a month I do a olive oil treatment. It all can be found at dollar general, family dollar, walmart,or any other store like that. And its cheap, like a dollar or two.
I think women with gray hair are beautiful, but I have not been able to accept it yet.

Dye-free here! I'm starting to get the greys popping up here and there, but to me its a part of growing older. I prefer to age naturally.

My mom is 69. She would never tell you that, of course. She is 39! (It feels strange to be older than your own mother, by the way. In a sort of "upset the space-time continuum" way.) She has dyed her hair for about 25 years. She had fits when her first grandchild came along because she didn't want anyone calling her grandma. (She did opt for Gram.) It seems sad, and a bit pathetic to me, that she is so fearful of not being young anymore. Rather than celebrate the life she has led, she is constantly looking backwards to what was. I choose to be happy in what is!

I have been observing men for many years and I have noticed that most of them claim to want their women to look "natural".

However, at any party, the woman getting the attention from these very same guys is the one with the shiny blonde hair, pretty dress, make up, sexy shoes, etc. The mousy grey haired woman in sensible shoes sits by herself.

Guys say one thing and betray it with their behavior.

If you don't want to dye, don't.

The women in my family go grey early and fast. When I turned 34, I found 2 greys. I pulled them out with a quickness, and called my younger sister to cry. She actually LAUGHED at me! It turns out she's been coloring her grey since she was 17!

My grandma was completely grey at 35. She'd wear a wig occasionally to cover it (for family pictures) but otherwise she went au naturale. I think she was the most beautiful woman in the world.

I don't like coloring either, mostly because I did it for SO many years just for kicks. I only hope that the rest of my grey turns out as silver as my first 2. Silver hair is stunning.

My dh is 34, and he's about 75% grey. He hates it, but I tell him at least he's still got a full head of hair.

Don't worry about public opinion. If you like it (or even tolerate it LOL), leave it alone.

You said it, sister. Although Opa does seem to be the exception to the rule.

I don't know, I have never seen him at a party.

LOL Mother in Law was teasing DH 2 nights ago that he has greys and his mother doesnt. She ALWAYS dyes. My mom goes back and forth between it. I will dye to cover greys when I get them. I dye now for the fun cause I just gotta have some funky color running thru my hair (it amuses my kids when its a color they get to choose) but I wont let DH color his I think its very attractive to have greys in all that dark brown hair! I am 100% for coloring if you want to tho and if you have a pro do it and use good quality there is no "frying" especially if you use a good quality conditioner on your hair.

My feminist urges say don't dye. I think it is pathetic how we women are conditioned to try to do this "hot at all costs" thing. As if, somehow, the only look that is attractive is a 25 y.o. look. Please so not tell me that Helen Mirin & Cathering Deneauve are not stunning.

That said, I dye my hair! I am a dark brunette and the grey hairs stick straight up like little springs - boing! I was surprised to read that you have found the dye to be harsh. The main reason I dye my hair is that it makes my hair softer.

I don't have a dye schedule, I just buy some at the store when my hair gets unruly & "crunchy."
