to goose or not to goose????

I have been doing some research about geese. Currently we have 52 chickens (31-6wk chicks & 21 grown chickens) and 4 ducklings about 2-3 wks old. My DD wants to try the goose too and I'm okay with it. 2 days ago I was all for it and found a place within 10 miles that has several varieties of goslings for $10.00(of course not what DD would like to have,,either a sebbie or pilgrim) they have the chinese, roman, embden and toulouse. Now I'm getting cold feet. Why????? I have plenty of space here and they would be spoiled but.......?? Can someone convince me what I need to do. Enablers please don't respond.

Those are cute!!! My daughter wants pilgrims now over the other breeds. Get this....my DH husband wants to get some turkeys now. We are turning into a feathered farm!! Need to read up on those too.

I agree with your daughter go for the Pilgrims. Personality-wise they are my favorite breed of geese. Ours are calm and low key even in breeding season. The Sebastapols & the Buffs are pretty but the Pilgrims are the nicest in temperament. It's the only goose pen our seven year old is allowed to go into alone. (Not enabling just encouraging

)

Terrielacy that is a gorgeous goose. Well my Toulouse eggs are only on day 3 And since they can take anywhere from 28-33 days or longer. I might be able to order some Pilgrims to slip in there too.

stop enabling me with geese, you guys know we are trying to sell our house and move to our six acres.

Pilgrims or Toulouse.

Now me and mom have to work on dad, who does not want any waterfowl period.

You want a goose, but make sure to get at least two.
They are most delightful creatures!
Sorry duck people but geese are MUCH more intelligent, people loving and friendly than ducks or chickens if bonded to humans at birth so get day olds if you get some.
There are some precautions...without the proper set up they can be mischievous, trouble makers.
They like to nibble/shred things so I don't allow them around to be around my vehicles or house. They can girdle small trees, eat garden vegetables etc.
Too much for them to get into but with a fence to keep them where you want them...JUST AWESOME!
No need to put up big fencing...2 ft. rabbit guard or garden fence is all you need to keep them were you want them from going. They are great lawn mowers too.

Thank you guys......errr, I mean enablers.

I don't plan on penning the geese up if we get some. They will be free ranging. I do pen up at nights and if gone for a long period of the day. I was wondering how much damage they would do. I know my chickens do enough without the extra help. At least geese don't scratch and dig holes all over the yard, do they? I know that we need to get a pair or trio. Another question...since straight run is all you can get,,If I end up with all males or females will they get along regardless of sex?
