so the weather in Washington has been SUPER sucky which has delayed our coop construction...

my birdies would really like to get out of their pen in the garage. I wanted to at least prime the inside of my coop but that would delay things further....so my question is...

is it worth it to paint the inside?

I find it a bit easier to clean and a bit brighter looking, as well as sealing the wood, but it isn't absolutely necessary - lots of coops go "au natural!"

We had the same debate, but in the end decided to paint even though its delayed the chicks getting in by a week or so. Easier to clean, better for the wood (especially in wet climates), and it makes me happy. It would be hard to change my mind and do it after the chicks were already in. That being said, I've seen lots of unpainted coops too. Do what will make you happy.

Paint makes it WAAAAAY easier to clean inside, also brighter (makes short winter days less of a problem re: laying)

Priming should not delay things much, like a day at most. Maybe two if you do a quickie paint job too.

Good luck, have fun,

Pat
