To Rescue or Not Rescue, That is My Question

I have often added birds, but I like to add from home flocks like my own. Not birds from a swap meet. There is a real bio security risk when adding strange birds. So something that is being rescued...tends to have been stressed to the max.

This is a real case of buyer beware. I would hate for them to loose their own flock for another.

A Facebook friend just asked me if I would be interested in taking in about 12 chickens that have been abandoned. I have plenty of space for some, perhaps not all. I would not take in any roosters. What are your thoughts out there in BYCland? Is this a bad idea?
I wouldn't do it.
But might depend on your tolerance for risk of disease and pests.
FB 'friend' can mean many different things.

Agrees with @Shadrach ...go look first.
And @Mrs. K ...don't take any bird you 'feel sorry' for.

about a month of quarantining those 4 together near my other birds
This^^^ is not a true quarantine.
Consider biological/medical quarantine:

I’m in the “go look first” camp. Don’t make any commitment until you have seen them. Check them thoroughly for parasites. I wouldn’t take any if even one didn’t look healthy. You have to make up your own mind, of course. But please think about how much risk you are willing to take with your current flock’s health and well-being.
