They keep the rodents out, but not the wild birds, so if your enclosure is open topped, the wild birds will get in there.I find there is less spillage than just using a tub. I am looking @ some of the tube feeders:View attachment 1923083
My problem is I'd need quite a few to accommodate all my girls. And rodents could access these I think.
What do you have @Oz chic ? I've not ever had a wild bird problem with the treadle feeder but I can't leave food in an open tub. They keep the rodents out, but not the wild birds, so if your enclosure is open topped, the wild birds will get in there.

Ah. Got'cha!I have the treadle feeders, they are great, so far, for keeping the birds out.
I previously had the pipe ones like the picture you attached, while i had an enclosed run, the birds stayed away, but as soon as the run was opened, the birds got into the tube feeders.
I shall cross Bantam's off my list to get!I have a treadle feeder. It keeps the sparrows out. Not good if you have a large fowl and bantams together. The bantams will jump inside to feed while the large fowl has a foot on the treadle. Then you have bantam stuckage until the large fowl is hungry again. I have heard from others that rats learn to open some models of treadle feeders - presumably these would be bantam-sized models.
There are bantam-sized treadle feeders. There just don't seem to be any for the flock of mixed sizes.I shall cross Bantam's off my list to get!
I have bantams in with my standards & they've never been caught in the treadle feeder ~ which is for standard birds.I shall cross Bantam's off my list to get!
