To use hardware cloth or to not to

Building a new chicken coop for the babies and I have a two inch gap at the top for ventilation. Should I use hardware cloth to cover gap or do you think too small for predetor to squeeze in. Or do you believe I should be better safe than sorry.

Egg predators could easily fit through that.

Predetor in my area are birds of prey, rats, racoons, and neighbors. Food and water are all outside the coop. Still working on the door for entrance

There are a few predators I can think of that can fit through that with ease. I say use it.

I’d cover it with something. Various weasels and relatives could get in as well as egg eating and feed stealing rodents.
