I think that reading any community driven forum is enough to drive anyone mad with paranoia. For every post that tells you to do something there are at least an equal number of posts telling you not to do the same thing. After several years of interest and desire to raise chickens, I decided to take the plunge earlier this year and started my chicken raising adventure.
After approximately seventeen weeks of servitude to the hens way of life they finally rewarded me with the ultimate trophy... a great big egg. For those that experienced it, take a moment to reflect back upon the time when you received your first reward. It really is exciting.
I have read countless posts and articles pertaining to the “washing of an egg”. Some say wash, some say don’t wash, some say wash with special solution, some say wash before cracking, some say rinse only and others say to only wipe it off. So, with that being said... Do you wash the eggs?
On another note, it took me about a day and a half to get over the uniqueness of eating an egg that was delivered by one of your own hens. I must say that it was by far he best egg that I have ever eaten. I am not sure if it is because of the spoiled treatment that they get or the fact that it is an egg that I “raised”.
