I just got the beginnings of my new flock from a hatchery and they didn't label any of the birds. That is mostly fine and dandy but they put a surprise chick in there as well and no I am not sure which one is my welsummer rooster and what the other one is.

I wanna say this little guy is the welsummer but I'm not certain.

And then there is this guy/gal. I had hoped that they would send another red variety.

Second one does not look like a Welsummer but idk what it is.
First one does have the correct pattern but it looks like it has a headspot which would indicate barring. That wouldn't be correct.
Idk maybe just a Welsummer with a faulty pattern and not a headspot. Interesting though

It's likely the light one. What all did you order.
Several different ones.
I wanted all welsummers for the reds but they didn't have any hens so I decided to go with beliefielders (I will learn how to spell that eventually) and a Welsummer rooster. They are going to round out what I'm calling my red flock. I have three grown hens that are easter eggers and two of them 'Fred' and 'George' are very close to the welsummer coloration and I am primarily going to use them for eggs but I wanted to see what kinda mixes could come from that for the time being. Otherwise, I got blue Andalusians for my other flock.

The first one would be correct for a bielefelder pullet

They should look very simmilar.. the bielefelder having the white head spots and not on the Welly cockerel. Actually that cross (if you discern their eggs) can still be sex linked at hatch despite not still being autosexing

The second one.. looks like maybe black/blue laced red Wyandotte.

I kinda hope so that one looks really pretty. Do wyandottes typically breed true to color?
They do when bred to the same color variety (black/blue/splash *laced*).. only exception being the blue lacing part (if it IS blue, kinda looks like it might be black after a second take).. Standard blue genetics would still apply, just like your Andalusians (minus lacing)..

Blue laced when bred to black laced red (or gold), would equal 50/50 black or blue laced red/gold. Gold is missing the mahogany enhancer.

Blue laced bred to blue laced will equal 50% blue laced, 25% black laced, 25% splash (white) laced. These are standard approximations that are valid with large numbers.. small individual batches may not result in these exact percentages.

Blue laced bred to splash laced would be 50/50 splash and blue laced offspring.

Your chick looks like it might be black laced red (after adjusting my screen lighting). Do notice the comb, appears to be flat at this point.. so definitely not straight like the other chicks in question, and very likely rose as it continues to develop. At least that is one of the clues that points to possible (probable) Wyandotte (for me). Noting many hatchery Wyandottes these days are sporting incorrect straight combs.. I've seen them really only mostly in the gold laced variety.

Check these pics from google. first one is said to be black laced red Wyandotte chick come Cackle..

2nd one on google images says from My Pet Chicken.. The lighter chick is likely splash laced, the darker one probably blue laced since that's what's stated on their site.
