Thank you Momof3plus!! Is it Mr Red and Ms .....? They look like they're babysitting the CX. Awesome Birds!!! I keep going back to the photo to see them again. Thank you and Duluthralphie for this fascinating project!!Here are the CX and two of the Toads outside in their new pasture area. There is a shelter for them at night and to get out of the rain and wind as necessary. The have their legs under them now!
Lovely girlI believe that is Ms. Green in the photo.
It is a sad day here in Toadville. I lost a Toad hen today. I went to gather eggs and she was laying upside down head hanging out the nest box, deader than a door nail...
She appeared to have a impacted egg. her butt was pushed out like a nasty hemorrhoid. The whole back end was really swollen. She was not quite a year old. I am down to 2 hens and two roosters for adult toads now.
I am glad I have so many young ones coming up and there are others with toads now. I am sending a few baby toads out Sunday to a family by Pine City. They have wanted them since they first saw them. She even wanted an adult rooster to cross back to a red ranger. I do not dare let one go when I only have 2.
I have some pictures to upload to here soon, and a video or two of the teen toads running. They are 18 weeks 4 days old today and I noticed some of them are getting extremely red combs.
I could have egg layers in a month to 6 weeks!!!
On the other sad side....Bert is leaving us.
He is dying as I type this. I should put him down, but I can't do it, he is not in pain or does not appear to be. Those couple hot days were more than he could handle. He is not dying alone though, the legbar rooster I showed last fall is sitting or standing right next to Bert, watching over him.
I am not one to assign human emotions to animals, but when I see things like this, I could be persuaded they have them. The Legbar is not bothering him just looking at him or sitting next to him, watching everything..
