I will be culling the first toad of this generation tomorrow, most likely. It appears to have a broken hip or femur. The leg turns slightly inward and it can hardly move.

I have it in a cage on water tonight. Final call will be tomorrow. I am wondering if a rooster climbed on her and she could not take the weight.

I will know more after the deed is done.

Sorry, that's a bummer...

Sorry Ralphie. Hope it's better in the morning somehow.

Butchered the CX on Thursday. They ranged 4.4 lbs to 5.6 lbs at 8 weeks 2 days.

Last week I tried to weigh them both and Mr. Red seemed to be about 6.7 lbs live weight and the CX 6 lbs they would have been 9 and 7 weeks old respectively. Now they are too big for my scale to be weighed live. They are living well though and Mr. Red is very friendly!

Are you seeing any signs of leg or hip problems? I am thinking I might have put too much faith in the not over eating gene, and fed mine too much. Also I am seeing slight angel wings on a couple, that disturbs me.

I only feed mine in the evening and just "scratch" and not too much. I now they want to fill up, but I make them free range forage most the day. They seem active but I am worried about legs on this batch for some reason. Maybe I am overly concerned, who knows.

I have 3 toads serving as tutors to the turkeys right now. Holm s coming to get them next weekend, we hope. These will be the right age for his fair and a chance to see how the judges do with them against CX's.

I will let you know how my toad weighs up after I do the deed.

Not sure what angel wings means but the Toads seem to be doing just fine. Here are a couple pictures and a short video if it will load for me.
