Here are the CX and two of the Toads outside in their new pasture area. There is a shelter for them at night and to get out of the rain and wind as necessary. The have their legs under them now!
wow they look great!! and look at all the space they have to roam!!!

It is a sad day here in Toadville. I lost a Toad hen today. I went to gather eggs and she was laying upside down head hanging out the nest box, deader than a door nail...

She appeared to have a impacted egg. her butt was pushed out like a nasty hemorrhoid. The whole back end was really swollen. She was not quite a year old. I am down to 2 hens and two roosters for adult toads now.

I am glad I have so many young ones coming up and there are others with toads now. I am sending a few baby toads out Sunday to a family by Pine City. They have wanted them since they first saw them. She even wanted an adult rooster to cross back to a red ranger. I do not dare let one go when I only have 2.

I have some pictures to upload to here soon, and a video or two of the teen toads running. They are 18 weeks 4 days old today and I noticed some of them are getting extremely red combs.

I could have egg layers in a month to 6 weeks!!!

On the other sad side....Bert is leaving us.

He is dying as I type this. I should put him down, but I can't do it, he is not in pain or does not appear to be. Those couple hot days were more than he could handle. He is not dying alone though, the legbar rooster I showed last fall is sitting or standing right next to Bert, watching over him.

I am not one to assign human emotions to animals, but when I see things like this, I could be persuaded they have them. The Legbar is not bothering him just looking at him or sitting next to him, watching everything..
:hugs so sorry to hear of the losses, but so happy that you will have more laying soonish :fl

Here is a bit better of a picture of the pasture set up with the Toads and CX. Anyone who says CX don't move should have been at my house after I got home from work. I had them all over the yard! They found a hole in the fence wiggled out. They are easy to catch though!

LOL, thats a great set up!!
I thought my 1/2cx hadn't been laying... seen her jump the 6'fence and go up by the house under some bushes.. when she left I found 5 eggs.. left her a fake egg and a golf ball so she doesn't find a different spot
WOW!! gonna throw those in an incubator??

a lot of 'eve's eggs are wonky, she hatch at halloween. still a lot of double yolks, but the deformed shells are better... I did hatch 3 of hers at Easter, 2 died.. and one at mother's day hatched... most were double yolk then clear then quitters..so much for her starting a new landrace.... but I will try again when these 30+ chicks are out of the brooders and little coop and in w/ the bigs or the freezer camp.. I have 3 brothers to her, I have been breeding the smallest to 3 other hens too... will see if 1/4 cx helps growth.

I moved 4 out of 12 toad eggs to the hatcher. This time the bad rate is on me 100%.. Between my being injured, The WWD having surgery, my NPIP testing and my inspection, I just was too slow getting them to the incubator, which I am sure cost me birds.

What did you do to yourself this time??
