As much as I like that a large hatchery is trying to make a better (IMHO) meat bird and one that is sustainable.
I would really like to not continue the conversation about them on this thread. This thread is not a thread on what I could or should have done or used in my creating my toads.
I am fully aware I could have done things different. I could have used any of a hundred breeds. I could have raised them somewhere else and so on.
I am an old man, and getting older everyday. I do not have the time to start over on a new strain or I have 5 years into the toads now. I am hatching the 6th year parents now. I have my shortcomings one of them is note taking and record keeping, if you do not believe me ask the IRS. They have made this fact painfully aware to me over the years.
Yesterday, with the help of some good friends from BYC and the Minnesota thread we tested 30 guineas, 17 turkeys and 80 chickens, I still have another 80 or so to go. My body is telling me today, I should cut back, a man my age cannot keep this up.
Therefore, there will be no other variations on the root stock of the toads, it will just be changes going forward.
If when you guys gets some of the toads (which I truly hope I can provide you) I would welcome any experiments you might do to them. My vision for toads is they become like any of the landraces and they just become, with no set direction, sort of like Swedish Flowers or Easter Eggers.
The death of the upcoming Bert, the young prince to the throne, is a set back, Luckily I have a spare prince to assume the role of breeding Bert if needed.
I have quite a few Toads coming up this year, I have 9 ( I thought I had 10) in the 12 week tractor, only one of them is a rooster, it appears. (there was a young eagle flew over head, hopefully he did not like Toad meat and take one) BTW not knowing or remembering if I had 9 or 10 should show you my age and my record keeping ability.
