I talked to the folks at the Post Office today. They said when chicks come they come early and to expect the call from them between 5:30 and 6:30 am!!

Been lookin at a good hatchery to get a few RI and NHR's from. Does Meyer have a good quality and have any of y'all had any problems with them? I was also thinkin distance I live in Arkansas and there's no "hop, skip and a jump" your way into Ohio. So would it be better to look for a closer hatchery?

Yep becuase they travel overnight. I am way out west...they told they were not sure what time they would actually arrive..but she knows to try my home and cell phone the minute the do!

What about you? What are you getting? You probably have yours now. I'm envyous!

We picked them up and they are so cute and spunky!! As the official nervous mother hen, I got up many times to check on them last night. We got 18 as well: 3 Speckled Sussex, 3 Welsummer, 3 "Barnyard Ameraucana" LOL, 3 Black Australorp, 2 Silver-laced Wyandotte, 1 Gold-laced Wyandotte, 2 Ancona, 1 Light Brown Leghorn. I couldn't decide on just one or two types! I'm glad to hear of the good experiences with Meyer chicks. Looking forward to hearing that yours made it safe and sound!

I am happy to hear so many people have good experiences with Meyer. There are so many hatchery choices and I tried a couple before Meyer but their ship dates were longer than the month we had to wait. I don't know why the Chickens for Dummies book doesn't list Meyer Hatchery in their list of hatcheries. The owner of this helped write that book. I am looking forward to healthy babies!

I thought seriously about the Light Brown Leghorn but went with the Partridge Rock instead. Maybe I'll get lucky and my free Meal Maker chick will be a Brown Leghorn

In any case our Welsummers, Ameraucansa, and Wyandottes are probably at least cousins if not siblings.

We should compare their progress over time. Mine are not here yet so I'm expecting them tomorrow. Worked out well actually, I had to go get a lower wattage bulb for the brooder light today, the one Tractor Supply sold with it was heating the brooder to over 100.

If you have pictures, post them, I want to see what's coming!

It is basically a selection of at least 5 different heavy layer breeds who produce different color eggs....we will see!
