today I found a...

I love looking for Fossils. My area is kind of devoid of them, but when I was in TX, all the time I picked up stuff--even petrified wood. The stuff was everywhere. But here at home (which is a settler's home--first built in the area 1890s) I have found marbles, Indian Head pennies, old meat grinder, Draft Horse shoes. We had archeologists digging in our fields (due to an eminent gas line) and they unearthed really awesome artifacts. Arrowheads, flint, spears, an axe, some pottery---too cool!!!

Nothing antique, but when I was digging the trenches to put up the chicken run, I lost my spade. Looked everywhere and couldn't find it. Four months later, I walk out to the run and there it is waiting for me on the ground in the run. I had apparently buried it and the chickens dug it out for me.

I bought an old book from an estate once that had 11 $100.00 bills inside it. I gave four bucks for the book and sold it on ebay for $450.00 (Without the money).

Nice.

We dug up some old rusty coins in our back garden. Can't remember what we did with them, they seemed to go back a while, those big chunky ones.

Have found many antique glass bottles, some worth money, and lots of horseshoes.

The neatest thing I ever found was a ladies antique silver purse in the bank of a creek.

We have a place near here where we find lots of arrow heads.

But, our best find story is also something of a mystery.

Back in the early 60s my mother's sister lived in a neighborhood near a school. She and her husband had troubles (divorce was a big deal back then) and when she died of a stomach ulcer my mother was devastated to find that not only had she lost her sister but her beautiful bracelet watch, that she wore everywhere, was gone. Everyone assumed her husband had taken it. My mother was heartbroken.

Ten years went by and my mother moved into that same neighborhood. We kids went to a private school so we could only play in that playground on weekends. But, one day we made huge leaf piles and jumped into them. Suddenly, my brother popped up with this gold bracelet. We were all excited he had found a beautiful gold watch. We ran home to show our mother thinking hopefully we would get a reward if we could return it to the owner.

Imagine our childish shock when our mother burst into hysterical tears! It was her sister's long lost watch.
