Today I worked a circular saw for the 1st time...

well...my computer is being slow and I got tired of looking but it wasn't the free handed kind I used and it wasn't the one below in the pic either but I do have one like that as well.

The one I used I just had to push the wood back and it cut it...so it was somewhat stationary but I could move the handle to operate the saw back and forth.

chainsaws scare me too...maybe if I had a little one...but the ones we have are biiiiig.

Ooooh, I really want a chop saw. For my birthday this year DH bought me a nice Milwaukee circular saw (the free handed kind) and for my anniversary he bought me a really really nice drill. He let me pick them out. I was able to do a nice job on my new coop without having to wait for him to get home from work. And, doing it myself allowed me to be a total control freak about how it looks.

I am all for female empowerment through power tools. Congrats Gretchen!

na...but I had a guy come over and hang my curtain rods...that's right...he even got out the tape measure.

He does good work...I guess I'm not that patient....either that or I don't know what I'm doing but I'll do it anyway.

Maple, I can't stress safety with power tools enough. I've been typing with only two fingers for over 50 years because of them. The first thing you do before turning on any tool is put on your safety glasses. Common sense and the use of other safety aids follows.

So are we to presume your other fingers are either a) missing or b) don't work?

So was it power tools that rendered them useless? Bet there's a story behind that. And thanks for the warning.

See, and big power tools kind of freak me out...mostly I'm not as confident in myself using them...this time I started out with confidence and it was 4 small cuts...so it wasn't a big deal but I started to freak out a little at the end...thinking, that's a biiiig blade.

If I had someone to show me the ropes and the more I used them the more confidence I would have, I believe.

I try to always be cognizant of where my extremities are when working with power tools. My husband and FIL have given me lots of good tips on how to use equipment safely, namely the chainsaw. But if I didn't use it, the work would never get done.

I was proud of myself the other day...

I got the chainsaw started when my FIL couldn't!! Take that!

Hi G!

how'd I miss this thread? Nice to see ya playing with tools!

Seriously though, be really careful. No matter how many times I use the power saws, I remind myself that there are an awful lot of people without fingers who had never had an accident before...

Then, I go over the safety rules for that particular tool (like never use a table saw without a push rod, etc.). Plus, only use sharp saw blades. They make the work easier and are far cheaper than one trip to the doctor for stitches (or re-attachment surgery).

Stay safe. Count ten painted fingernails, and keep it that way! Love ya!

I know... I haven't braved any more power tools lately.

But I'm afraid I might have to be the one who brings the big hefty air cond.unit up from the basement...it's yucky here and supposed to get really yucky tomorrow.

and now i'm sunburned from a day at the beach and ended at the pool with my lil girls and their lil cousins...why am I the one that attracts all the kids...including not relations?
