Today was the first one ever!

I ended up putting it in a dutch oven with carrots and onions as a "rack" with liquid in the bottom. It was WONDERFUL! Not tough at all and so tasty!

Sounds scrumptious! I'm so glad you had such a great experience from start to finish with your first butchered bird.
 
It gets easier after the first one. We usually crockpot ours on low all day and it comes out nice and tender. We have done plenty of non-meaty roo's and they haven't been tough just different than what you are used to. But definitely delicious.
