Today's temperature = # of eggs.

The temps here have been in the mid teens with lots of wind and snow. I have 5 Rhode Island reds and 5 Barred Rocks. They have been laying since the first week of December. For the past month I have averaged 8 eggs one day and 10 eggs the next. They seem to be very consistent in this pattern and I am very pleased with the out come.

Low last night was 31 and the day time high was 60. I got five eggs from fourteen Orphingtons.

Hi Mark, I'd be very pleased, too! Congratulations, and can you tell me about their diet? You're obviously doing something right. I have three older BR pullets that have been laying since early October with supplementary light. Early on I was getting 2-3 eggs every day, but for more than two weeks now, only two eggs from the same two chickens. The third has been on vacation.
We feed them laying mash from a local feed mill as well as treats and anything they can find in the yard and nearby woods. My wife gives them a small bowl of warm oatmeal and a little milk seasoned with wild bird seed on frosty mornings. I think she'll miss doing that when warmer weather arrives. Ha.

Gifa, can you tell me what the tilde (~) symbol means in your chart? Thanks!

Gifa, can you tell me what the tilde (~) symbol means in your chart? Thanks!
It means this pullet has yet to lay her first egg... so... tilde = "not laying" They are all 37 weeks old. So, Nandi is being a very bad girl, though, I expect her to start before Feb 16th.

The question mark means I have not identified an established laying cycle/pattern. Kaylee is going through a little 9 month mini-molt, so, she stopped laying 2 weeks ago... don't know when she'll start, but until then, she's an unknown. Saffron laid her first egg yesterday... gotta wait to see if she lays another one today... if she does, it won't be until 3-4pm, but because yesterday was a big dubya tee eff moment for her, I won't be completely surprised if she skips a day or two before her second. I watched her lay her first yesterday, the look on her face was priceless, and then after she laid it, she just kind of stood there for a while in the egg laying posture just kinda lookin' around, hehe.
