Yes. I'm pretty sure they just find dead animals and eat those.

We also get Turkey Vultures here, but they are quite common birds.

This is a poor quality photo of one that jumped on the garden fence. They have real sharp nails.

Correct. The hawk killed a rooster and the vultures ate the remains.
