Toddlers and Tiaras

I just saw the commercials. I see now there is one for little boys as well. It is a different world for these people.I wonder what the kids are like(and parents) when they grow up.

I tend to agree with Ferret that parents can get carried away with any hobby. This one seems particularly bad, but the words EDITED FOR TELEVISION come to mind. The clips with parents yelling, kids pouting, little brats saying spiteful things about other children, all get included. The families that go, have a good time and go home are not shown; they don't make good TV.

I live in Texas. Football is god. Parents and coaches let teenagers ruin their health with drastically high weights just so they can win games. Horrible parents come with every activity.

It's true that parents who are living vicariously through their kids can ruin any activity, but there's something about kiddie beauty pageants that's just extra-creepy to me. Makeup, "done" hair and nails, dance routines... these are some of the things I'm protecting my little girl *from,* you know? Plus, I'm still in the thick of teaching my kids that appearance is the least important thing about a person. I think if the parents would have to work extra-hard to provide normalcy and balance for the kids, and the few "pageant moms" that I've known weren't really interested in that.

mom'sfolly :

Horrible parents come with every activity.

And unfortunately they pass their poor judgment skills to their kids in the process....

My DD is 32 years old, she started pageants when she was 8 yrs old. She was a natural singer and is now a very outgoing, lovely adult.
My GD is 14 now she also did pageants she loved them.
I can tell you from experience I have only seen 1 parent act a fool as I call it in all the years we did pageants.
Bratty children come from bratty parents and they are going to be the same brats sitting in front of the TV watching Sponge Bob demanding their candy.
I have seen far worse yelling and cussing from parents and coaches alike at sporting events peewee football, soccer is the worst.

Than I ever saw at a pageant and all my GK's have been in or are in athletics at school.

The TV show on the other hand is just like any other reality show, they pick through it. You watch it purely (I dont watch it but have seen it) for entertainment. It is not a documentary. And yes, I realize it is not really entertainment but someone is watching.

Unfortunately in this day and age, values dont sell anymore, which is why all the crap winds up on TV. People thrive on misery and let it into their homes via television, radio, internet etc. I was raised on the values my mother taught me, a lot based on the golden rule, respect, church ( can I say that on here?) all the things that are left out in the majority of societies teachings lately. I just hope that the few good "eggs" (haha) left out there can band together to teach our younger generations to not be the generation of desensitized morons the world is trying to make them. Everyones input on this subject is great and the awareness is awesome. It gives me some faith in people again to know that Im not the only one who wouldnt take these hobbies to horrid extremes.

I'd like to reach through the tv and smack a couple of those kids! Some of them are flat obnoxious .. of course, that goes back to how they are raised, so let's stick to smacking their moron parents .. lol

I watched it last night and hubby and I were expecting to watch ten minutes of it, shake our heads in sadness and go to bed. But it was actually interesting! This one lady brought her ONE YEAR OLD babies on. She spent 250,000++ on pageant stuff for her ONE YEAR OLD BABIES. The way she talked about it was so creepy and weird, talking like the babies were "putting on a show" and "really into it, making eyes at the judges". It was so weird. One of the little girls ended up randomly winning the entire pageant and everyone was shocked since babies never win it. The parents were LOADED, flew in on a private plane and everything so of course they slipped the judges some money or something. And the reaction of Danielle, the 8 year old, when she lost? oh my.

I've seen the show quite a few times and only once or twice seen parents who seemed well rounded. I feel really sorry for these kids, some of them don't even seem to LIKE pageants. I know I wouldn't have. The makeup is another thing too- little girls should not be made to look like adults. That is just sick sick sick. The makeup on some of them is just so.... inappropriate. 4 year olds made up to look like tarts! Where did this come from!??!?!! Let them look and act like kids, for heavens sake.
