I spoke too soon. Her nose is stuffed up, and her ears are bugging her. She says she can't hear. They may just be popping for now. Seems like sinuses since it's happening this evening.

I may be completely out of line here, and I am perfectly willing to edit this post out if you wish, but... Have you told the parents you'd like custody? (I know that it's complicated beyond the usual complications of family.) It seems that you'd like legal custody.

Perhaps their putting her in public school is them attempting to "lighten your load" since they are thinking about having another kid they want you to be just as responsible for. You care that SHE is taken care of. If she is receiving worse care in their attempt to "lighten your load", they are increasing your load.

You care about whether Duckling is able to use the toilet and recognize that her using the toilet is important enough to put your life on hold long enough for her to go. It's... kind of a basic thing.

They don't seem to understand that it's not a joke. Children are a status symbol to them, so perhaps they just tune out both of the grandmothers suggesting that I have custody. I have tried to lead them towards willingly giving her up. It's just not happening.

Life is just too easy for them just now. They have no incentive to change or give her up. They have the best of both worlds - a cute kid when they want one, with hardly any effort ...

Good morning!

I should get to the farmer's market and drink the coffee vendor's delicious nectar. Since my husband doesn't drink coffee, I rarely brew a pot.

My husband actually kept the kids from waking me up this morning. I slept til 9 for the first time in almost 5 years.

This child is hysterical! She loves the space in her room. I'm trying to get her into the habit of making her bed. She didn't do too bad for her first try.
