I began panicking before I got to the sidewalk. First, I have not seen the outside world, and the reality in a while. Second, I cannot shop without Duckling. I will have a panic attack, and I don’t know why her father knows that (I don’t want to know either!). He offered to put a mask on her, and I wanted to scream. The rules on children are all over the place, but I love her, and I’m not going through this hell just to put her at risk. Of course she also would have slowed me down in a time when speed was needed. There were no children in the store.
The masks were everywhere, but I saw some people had removed theirs after passing the employees at the door. I touched nothing until I knew I was buying it. I touched my phone once (I forgot my paper shopping list of items I needed in the store), and wiped it down before returning it to the small (washable) purse containing only hand sanitizer and other necessities.
I almost snapped at the woman behind me to stay back. That would be overreacting though, and you cannot snap at your elders.
My b-i-l was not being careful, and it isn’t helping my fear each time I let Duckling into my house. I’m just continuing to be careful about where she sits, touches, etc.
