One of my 11 week old Brahmas has a toe injury, looks like the tip of her toenail is off. It bled on her foot feathers. This is our first chicken injury, and I feel unprepared! I took her inside and washed her feet, but it looks like on her other foot there are bloody feather nubs. Not sure how best to help her past keeping it clean? 20200620_195404.jpg

Unfortunately, Brahmas, due to their ponderous weight, will lose toenails from time to time. I have a twelve-year old Brahma hen and she has lost all but one or two toe nails. They bleed a lot, but as long as the nail is taken completely off, it heals quickly with little discomfort. If a nail is only partially torn off, you need to remove it or else it will cause significant pain. There's very little danger of infection.

Be ready for this gal to lose more nails. She's only half grown, and they get quite heavy as they fill out. Mine weighs around twelve pounds.
