Toes falling off

View attachment 2259949Here are pictures of the hens. I’m going to soak their feet now.
When you get a chance, really look them over good for lice/mites, look for white powdery looking qtip like buds at the base of the feathers as well - that would be lice eggs.

Again, when you can give them a bit more straw to help keep feet from getting soiled, but change it all out frequently. While SLM do mainly live on the bird underneath the scales of the legs/feet, they do migrate (slowly) so it's possible your other birds could get them.

Getting a fecal float to check for worms would be good too, if not then I would consider worming them.
Keep watch on behavior and droppings. While they are old enough that they should have resistance to the strain(s) of Coccidia that was in the environment they came from, you may have different strain(s) that they have not encountered. Just something to keep in mind.

While they were soaking I checked them over for mites and I didn’t see anything. I’ll put more straw in next chance I get

Oh good!
It may take some time for all of it to come off. Did the skin underneath look raw?
Some of it looked a little red but not too bad. I also found that another one of my newer hens either used to have scaly leg mites or still does because I noticed she had some lumpy bits on her toes and was missing a lot of leg scales so I’ve been treating her too.

Glad the skin doesn't look too bad. Your ointments/oils after soaking will help them heal.
Good that you are looking at your other chickens too.
I try to look at mine frequently. Rubbing a bit a vaseline or oil into and under the scales occasionally won't hurt them even if they don't have SLM.

Week one progress!

And this is what they look like today! We did lose a toe today but they are already looking so much better!

Wow! That's an improvement! Nice job. I hope they continue to heal.
Thank you for the update and photos:)
