Tolbunt Cochin Project...anyone interested?

Kelly, have you seen my MFC roo? He is a darker red vs buff and has white tips to his feathers. Not sure if he could be used for the Tolbunt project, but thought I would throw him out there for you to see.

Why not start with the gold laced and mille fluer then once the pattern is achieved add a black tailed red to the mix to add the mahogony? It would take a few generations more but the red color should be better. I used the calculator to see what would happen and it says it should work fine..

Almost all the hatcheries have red cochins. They might not be the best type but the color would be there. I'm sure there are some good ones out there since it is a standard color. I'm no genetic guru or anything but after playing with the calculator for a while I may have a way of making the color with what I have at home in another breed but another breed would have to be mixed in to get the wanted results. The only mille fleur I have is OEGB and don't see him breeding my LF birds.

you could always use a nice Bantam Rhode island red in the mix also since they are easier to find.

Everyone is obviously welcome to use whatever birds they want to start a project, but I'm planning on starting just with Cochins so I don't have to worry about them having poor type later on. I have a red Cochin roo, but the gold laced will probably give more of what I'm after for now.

If you get some good answers from the genetics calculator please share.

HMMM I have STD gold laced cochins in the bator. what color would you cross them with ? they are in lockdown now so wish me luck.
