They are too pricey for me, though, but MAN are they cool !!

We have all kinds of herbs too, we brew beer with them using ancient recipes. Very interesting and different!

I also am a (informal at this point, I'm afraid) student of herbalism and am learning from a Native the traditional uses of our local plants. I keep telling DH those aren't weeds in our yard, they're food and medicine!

BTW, if you don't like the smell of burning sage, you can also use sweetgrass or juniper. I am partial to the juniper myself, but have a friend who is so allergic she would go into anaphylaxis if I burned it even days before she came over, so sadly I use sweetgrass or incense instead.

Both sage and juniper are known to have antibacterial effects as is eucalyptus when inhaled. And you can make a tea of them and inhale the fumes as well, if the idea of the smoke bothers you.

LOL One year (back when the oldest was still like 7 years old or so- he is 21 now) we had a Maypole in the backyard - the kids took the day off school - the mailman stopped by and asked us what we were doing.... He ended up joining us for a few minutes, before moving on to his route, LOL.

Ya just never know, eh?

LOL I've been wanting one of those - seen em on ebay. Those are cute -Did you know that they also have knife holders like that?

ETA - a year ago I moved to an area of the country that is not - shall we say - religiously diverse. My house looks like Haiti blew up in here (along with a ton of rooster statues added in - it's sort of a mix between Voodoo and Country style, LOL) I definately had to tone down the decor for the benefit of the neighbors - got to keep the peace, ya know. I love my neighbors, and I would never want to offend them, even in my own home - hospitality is a pretty big thing with me, usually.

Peace -
Meri

Privacy fencing goes a long way to quell the neighbors! They think my kool stuff is junk!

Luckily I live on 25 acres and there is about 1/4 mile between me and the nearest neighbor - plus, that one knows, they are cool with it - no one else down here does know, though. I also moved much of my more - umm, obvious - stuff to the sewing room. I can close the door that way.

The rest of the house is just Haitian artwork, mostly. Although, I did put birdhouses on this fence out front, and one of them I painted up to be "Mama Keziah's House of Voodoo"

No one ever looks that closely at it, thankfully.

Hmm... I have recently met two BYC-ers who don't know, guess they do now (if they see this thread), LOL hope they are ok with it.

.... but maybe I should...Sometimes his is so strong our back yard is filled with the essence, we can get a contact in our back yard!

ETA: I used to say I was the sane one out of the bunch...it is still true, but now they think I am the nut....but I KNOW THE TRUTH!!!
