Tom or hen?

It might be a good idea to start a new thread about care for BB birds for longevity. This personally doesn't interest me, they are intended to be short lived meat birds. That's why we have heritage birds ;) or broadbreast hybrids. I have been quite happy with my f1 BB hybrids, they're great layers, are much larger than my heritage hens (around 20lbs) and have had zero health issues compared to BB. Toms are a consistent 28-30lbs, naturally mating capable, good temperaments.

I think it is a hen after hearing your opinions. Also, it looks like more white tipped breast feathers are coming in. All of my BBBs are doing fine but they are only a few months old... They are pretty active, they spend all day foraging and like to go into the apple orchard and swallow small apples whole. I am going to get some heritage turkeys next year, I assumed that these three were heritage bronze because I got them from a farmer at a swap meet and I did not think a random farmer would be breeding BBBs because I thought they NEEDED to be AI. I am not planning to eat any of these birds but I will try to hatch some of their eggs next year, we will have to see how long they can live. I like your idea for a thread about BBB care Noellereagan, it would be helpful to me. You have some really beautiful birds TurkeyTimes.

I’ve got eight birds and like I said, some I know to be Toms. All of them- at almost 9 weeks have white tipped Brest feathers.

The breast feather tell will not work until the adult breast feathers are in place. Your poults do not have their adult feathers so that method does not apply at this time.
