rozen blueberries

Yum! When I was little my parents had a wine grape vine in the backyard and every year we picked them, put them on cookie sheets and froze them before transferring to a bag in the freezer. Nothing better on a hot day than to grab a handful of frozen grapes and start (carefully, they had seeds) chowing down!

on hot days..I like to doll out frozen treats..watermellon..grapes..blueberries..blackberries..strawberries...Im sure you know where Im coming from..I figure if it helps me cool off and gives me an added boost same applies to my feathered and fur babies..my husband and I gather an over abundance but we never waste..what we dont use for jams and jellies gets frozen and we either use them in pies and snacks or offer to our beloved..today I changed the water for the chickens and added a bunch of ice cubes and a few frozen fruits as well..LOL did they ever love that! Also today was the first day in the month Ive been mama to these feathered babies that my "tweedles" (the silkies) gave me an egg!!! I was tempted to leave it and see if she would hatch it as the rooster mated with her 2 days ago..hubby said..its a waste if it doesnt hatch..collect it and watch for more..was sad at this but collected the egg..didnt have a soft shell today all 6 I collected from the Australorps appear to be good and Ive put them in the fridge..Oh a question though...if I wanted to put the egg back into my tweedles nest box would it still possibly hatch even after being in the fridge?

It COULD, and people do sometimes hatch out refrigerated fertilized eggs from Trader Joe's but the hatch rate is a lot lower. I think the biggest problem is if they get cold once they start developing since a hen will lay 1 egg a day but won't start sitting on them until she has a nest full so they get chilled some each night that she doesn't sit on them.

Thank you Kusanar...this is the first ever egg from her..she and a sister are seperated from the rest of the flock as the Asutalorps pick on the silkies..I let the tweedles(silkies) out on monday..seen the rooster mate with one and had to put them away shortly afterwards as again the bigger girls got jealous..lol sooo just another proud Kelly day 😄😄 always learning

If it's her first egg ever, likely she isn't going to go broody just yet. I would wait. Worst case, if she or her sister go broody you can give them some eggs from the rest of the flock to hatch out.

thank you Kusanar..its not her "1st" egg just the 1st one for me..thinking of letting them out again so the rooster will mate her again..then I will leave the egg in for her to hatch..lol still learning
