Too Early for Feb Hatch-A-Long Thread??

I did good keeping track of everything my first hatch but after that I stopped... not sure why. I'm going to do a log I think of all my hatches for 2020, but I'm sure I'll forget to do something

I keep documents on my computer of my hatches. Hatch rates, which incubators, where I got the hatching eggs, time of year. It helps me to keep track and last year it helped me to realize I have a hatching addiction too, so there's that. Lol :lau

Checking back in. Last week was absolutely miserable with the dying chicks. We lost another over the weekend, so have 7 which makes me so sad, but there's nothing to do but move on. Just want to say that if you have to experience anything like that, you need a friend like @Mylied to get you through it. :love

On a brighter note, I just moved my pita pintas and one marans fertility check egg to the maxi to hatch. Last candling shows all babies looking good. That would be 13 due to hatch in the next 24-36 hours. Super pumped.

Also good news that one of last week's BL polish shows signs of frizzling so I'm super pumped.

I'm so sorry to hear about your losses and struggle with coccidiosis. :hugs It's so wonderful and important to have understanding and helpful friends through times like that! I hope your next hatch goes flawlessly!!

well, if nothing else, i learned that shipped chicks may not be the thing for me...the instant gratification is cool but i like controlling the process and hearing the peeps from the eggs! going to go play "don't go chasing waterfalls..." lol :lau

So sorry about the chicks :hugs

Hope that the next chicks do amazingly!

I had my husband put new chicks in with the 2 week olds and one escaped while he was putting the other 2 in. We looked for it for hours. We even took the beagle out so she could sniff it out, but the trail she sniffed had nothing. I think something got it before we did. He felt so bad because of everything that's been going on. I told him it's okay but it'll cost him 3 ducklings!

I don't think I'll ever get shipped chicks just because I have heard about chicks dead on arrival in my area. I like incubating eggs a lot and I'll probably continue to do it for years to come.

Oh no!! I had a few Brahma escapees over the summer and ended up having to go buy a few at TSC just to give the last remaining two a few friends. It's hard when you're on so much space and you can't be everywhere at once to find them.

Well, that was my first and last time, I think. Unless I get caught with a cocktail and my phone in hand after 10 pm again... :celebrate I love hatching, too.

The guy I'm hatching the ducklings for told me he'd give me 3 ducklings 😁

We have the brooder in the shed and we had a gate in front of the door. The new one was so tiny it popped out of the brooder and out the gate.
