Too Early for Feb Hatch-A-Long Thread??

Pics
I candled my 16 shipped silkie eggs earlier today, it's day 3 1/2 for them and 9 look viable. It's still pretty early so maybe some more will be viable as well but for shipped eggs I'm not unhappy with how many I've got definitely growing right now. :)

I set 24 eggs from my silkie flock today as well. Not too sure how they'll do. I had to choose between storing in an area that was too cold or one that was too warm and I went with the warm room (it's been around 75 degrees the last couple weeks). The oldest eggs in the bunch are 2 weeks old. I wanted to wait to set these so I could time a hatch with some more shipped eggs I have coming but shipping was delayed and my eggs are older than I'd like already so in they went. I think I should have pretty good fertility this time. Five of the eggs are from a hen that didn't have fertile eggs 2 weeks ago but yesterday she laid an egg out in the run that got soaked by rain so I cracked it and I'm pretty sure I saw a decent bullseye. So hopefully a couple of her eggs will develop! :D

So now I have

11 paint silkie eggs from my flock due to hatch on the 11th (all 11 look good)

16 shipped paint silkie eggs due to hatch on the 22nd (9 out of 16 looking good so far)

24 mostly paint silkie eggs (6 are mixed colors) from my flock due to hatch on the 26th

Baby 2 is here! It’s the one that pipped through the blood vessel. So so cute. It’s supposed to be a white Ameraucana but almost has black tips on its wet down..thoughts?View attachment 2019263

Loving the hatching pictures! I can't wait to see this one fluffed up, I love it when they come out with unexpected colored baby down. :love

So I still have three that haven't hatched our pipped. How long should I leave them in the incubator? Their day 21 was yesterday.
Oh and the new babiesView attachment 2019306

Aww what a bunch of little cuties! That little brown one with the spot on it's head is such an interesting color. :love

Major mood swings here! Just notified that eggs are being shipped tomorrow instead of the 10th so super excited!! :yaThen notice the proximity to the weekend and worry about conditions in the An Post warehouse where they might sit for the weekend if not delivered on Friday......and then if they are and I get them in the incubator on Saturday I might have Leap Day babies, yay!! But I already joined the March hatch-a-long because they weren't supposed to be shipped until next week. Can you tell this is my first hatch LOL?!?!?

First hatch how exciting! I hope your eggs arrive quickly and in good condition! :fl

What this means is... you need to now make ANOTHER order of hatching eggs. That way you can maintain your membership in the March hatch a long. 👌🏻

I was WAY off on dates apparently. I put the second batch in 7 days after the first. Not 4... got home from work and thought the worst. They all died in their shells and I messed something up big time...

Nope. Recounted on the calendar and candled again. Everyone is fine. Several inner pippers, just no outers yet.

So glad to see all these babies today! When it comes to leaving them in the incubator. They are perfectly fine all night in there. You’re better off leaving them in the incubator so they can stay toasty warm, than risking them still being slightly wet, losing track of where the heat source is and dying from getting too much of a chill.

The night when everyone was hatching and the power went out, I had to take the 7 fluff balls and put them back in the incubator. Only had the small generator that could go to the incubator room, not the heat lamp at the other end of the house.

Moral of the story... they’re fine all night in there and probably better if they’re a little wet.

Not that I'm biased or anything, but the Fisher school is excellent! I think you will really like it here - we have all the good things about a big city like restaurants and activities, but still have a lot of small-town community feel. Are you staying near campus? You should go to Pins Mechanical for the pinball and duckpin bowling, Dirty Franks has the best hot dogs in town, and Mikey's Late Night Slice is actually good when you are sober too! Ooooooh, and North Market, and Bridge Park in Dublin is fun, and...... lol!

I guess what I'm trying to say is Welcome to C-bus, get your scarlet and grey on, and start learning the words to Carmen Ohio!
:highfive: Wow! Thanks for all the tips! As a mom I like that we can fly direct from Boston and the school is not hours away from the airport like some of the other schools she's looking at. The Ohio State is one of her top schools but we have not visited yet. Trying to coordinate time off from work, her school schedule and a relatively cheap flight has been a challenge. So we have not booked a hotel yet obviously. Hoping to stay pretty close to campus if we can. She only got her acceptance last Friday even though she applied early action. We'll get there!!! Thanks again

Ok thanks this is reassuring as I was just now trying to decide to take out or leave the first 3. 2 more just hatched. The last Ameraucana and the first Black Birchen Marans! They are starting to cause quite a ruckus in there but I’ll just hope for the best.

Should I remove some empty shells?

Once the lights are out, they will settle a bit. They’re probably very tired anyways. Big day for them! I worried when I had to put the 7 completely dry fluffs back in the incubator from the brooder box, but woke up and they were just fine. Even lost sleep over it.
