Too Early for Feb Hatch-A-Long Thread??

Should I remove some empty shells?

I wouldn’t. There is a small chance you could harm anyone who is trying to hatch. That tiny dip in moisture can wrap them up pretty quick in the membrane. Not worth the risk imo. If there were dry fluffs and no one currently hatching, that’s when I take fluffs out.

Ok perfect. I will let everything be. Thanks so much. Another Marans is almost out!

I actually think the Marans that just hatched might be a Blue Birchen. We will see as the fluff dried!

I’m so scared to shrink wrap a baby even though watching them fall all over the shells is driving me nuts.
I don't know why everybody is so scared of shrink wrapping I've taken out an egg and candled it while it was externally pipped and nothing happened.

I think that shrink wrapping has a lot more to do with people who have way too high humidity and they let it drop too fast.

I dry hatch completely and my humidity is usually 30% throughout the entire hatch and I get 90% hatch rates.

There's always one egg that never hatches.

Oh wow! You dry incubate all the way through hatch? Amazing.

Yup. I never add water. It stays 30% throughout and my chicks always have an easy time getting out.

When I did my first hatch I added water and it was 40% till day 18 then I went to 50% it turned into a huge disaster.

Very interesting. I kept it close to 30% up until day 18. Cool to know lockdown can be done at a lower humidity.
