Too Early for Feb Hatch-A-Long Thread??

Holy crap last night was a bit crazy. Big storm blew through. Power pretended go out a few times, then gone around 7 or 8. Have two incubators going and a ceramic heat bulb for the fluffs.

Luckily we have a generator. BUT we couldn’t run it all night. 7 or 8 babies were out and several were in process. Other half was going to just turn the generator off for the night. No!!! I told him they would all be dead in the morning. Had to pull out the smaller generator and plug both incubators in through a window. Could not sleep last night. Today is hatch day for the rest of them.

Now we have no clue who is who. My daughter and I were marking them off on the sheet and remembering what breed each one was. Not now! We have a jumbled mess of fluffs and only know what three of them are  but they’re alive. Getting fuel for the generator and will take some photos of the tiny fluffy butts when I get back.

Yes, that’s a live wire. A bit worried driving over it... needed fuel for the generator and our other access road has trees down blocking it.

WOW! As if you haven't had enough going on already! That's crazy! I'm glad none of the trees fell on your house and that your quick thinking saved your incubator babies, even if you don't know who's who anymore. lol

So I crack open 7 more eggs from this week, as I got closer to the end I started having them look like the one you pointed out. I stopped cracking once I got 2 in a row that had that big ring. I will collect for a few more days and try again. Hopefully they will keep laying and giving me 4-5 eggs a day. My satin and serama hen are broody this morning hopefully no one else joins in this week. 😝
Do you cook the eggs after you crack them? When I would check fertility I would cook the eggs for my dogs 😁

That looks like it was one heck of a storm. Hopefully all your chicks are alright!

Oh wow stay safe.

Our last broody turkey turned out to be a dud. She had 4 dead babies under her most of em looked squished... either in the shell or trying to get out. One more baby was externally piped so it came into the incubator with the batch due tomorrow. Thst hen will not be given eggs again. She was bitey to me and didnt manage to hatch any. She did make a decent incubator just a bad mom... so sad
If this last one makes it we will call it nemo

Yes the 3 earlier the dogs got. Actually the reason I cracked more open was my daughter wanted eggs and English muffin for lunch so I scrambled them all up and what she didn’t want went to the chickens.
We are not big egg eaters here, so I usually hard boil a bunch for the chickens every week. My husband and son don’t like my silkie eggs “they are too rich” and my daughter thinks her dad can’t cook eggs because they taste horrible but really it’s because he cooks store bought and she’s use to my silkie eggs. I think I’ve created a life long chicken farmer as she will never be able to eat store bought eggs. 😂

Yeah store bought eggs are not good not matter what kind you buy. My family eats eggs, but I don't. It's nice that we can go outside and grab fresh breakfast. My dogs love over easy eggs 😁
