Too Early for Feb Hatch-A-Long Thread??

The mystery of egg with the black substance has been solved. I decided to leave the egg in the incubator until it died, and it died over night. I cracked it open and there was no mold in the egg, the chick had black feathers, and since it was stuck to the membrane, it made it look weird. The chick was fully formed, but much smaller than it should have been at this point in the game. That leaves me with 9 Icelandic eggs remaining from 12, not bad. All the others are looking great. Day 14 for most, with 1 at day 12, and 2 at day 7

Thank you for updating us on the stuck chick! I know some people don't like looking into the eggs once the chicks have died but it can be very educational or at the very least, answer questions.

Fingers crossed that the rest of your chicks continue to develop well and hatch! :jumpy

Can I join in. No chicken eggs but im on day 13 for button quail. And have japanese quail on the way to set around this weekend. First time hatching, have started my own thread too. 🐣🐤🐥

Yes! Of course! Button quail are so exciting! We them when I was a kid and they were just so cute to watch running around the aviary. I hope you'll share pictures of those itty bitty little babies!! :love

Interesting. I like knowing the little guy had a shot and passed naturally. Great job watching it so closely. A learning experience for us all.

Oh gosh take your quail somewhere else 🙈 you'll make me want some... Just messing. Of course you're more than welcome, but only if you share pics of the quailies when they hatch!

I totally understand. I don't even try anymore. I have a general idea of who's doing lockdown +/- 1 day of me but that's about all I can keep track of. These eggs are day 11 and day 13. I've already pulled blanks. There were quitters.

I've had dozens and dozens shipped eggs. If I had to guess I'd say easily over 150 eggs. They're definitely a mixed bag. I just can't help myself. Although I do limit myself to only those from bordering states.

While I hatched over 100 chicks last year too, I only had one batch that was shipped. I find there are a lot more twists and turns when shipped for sure! I have driven many hours to avoid the postal service, lol.

No you don't want to see. Their cuteness will sucker you into wanting them... You can only peak real quick 👀

Shhhh, I want to see the wittle bitties!!
