Too Early for Feb Hatch-A-Long Thread??

Late to the party but have 4 days to go on just 3 eggs—buff laced polish bantams & 13 days on some black mottled pita pinta asturianas in with a fertility check on my marans. Whew!!!

re: brooder plates: I have 3–a brinsea eco glow, a titan, and a rent-a-coop which I’ve all been pleased with

I was just about to recommend to join us in the hatch-a-long when you mentioned your incubators running in the Georgia thread! lol, I'm excited to see your pita pinta asturiana babies!

Aww! So many little peeps! How many hatched total? Chicks can hatch days late when there are cold spots in the incubator but since all of the actively hatching chicks are out, I would try to candle the eggs that are left to see if you can see an internal pip or movement. You can also listen to the egg for tapping or scratching sounds, or lightly tapping it to see if the chick chirps.

9 have hatched so far. I candled the remaining yesterday and didn't see any movement nor any internal pips, though not really sure what I'm looking for there. I'll candle again today and try to hear any sounds.
Thanks for your great reply

What's pita punta asturianas? Do you have pics of what they look like?

I had to Google it as well, a new breed to me! I stole this from Google...

Woke up to baby #7. A little F2 Olive egger. It doesn’t have a pea comb so I’m thinkig probably won’t lay Olive. Didn’t expect it to be light colored either! It’s going to be so interesting looking once it’s dry. So now 7/12 are hatched. Plus I have the 3 wild card eggs in there that I wasn’t sure about. We will see what today brings. No pips on any other eggs yet. About to start pulling the dry-ish chicks out. View attachment 2019614View attachment 2019615

You won't know what color of egg that one will lay unless it's a pullet and it lay's an egg. I have straight combed Naked Neck hen's over here with straight comb's that lay green egg's.

Ditto here in central Ohio (although we have a history of late-february snowstorms, so I should probably bite my tongue). We have had a couple of deep freezes for less than a week, and maybe one real snowfall, but other than that it's been rain, rain, and more rain. If it ever dries out enough I think I'll be able to get my garden tilled, and my chicken runs re-seeded a month early. Thanks global warming?

We have been having your freezing overnight temp's over here in Arizona. Hopefully last night was the last of it.

Yeah I think greenfire is the original importer & they are still new here from northern Spain. The eggs are monster size. I’ve done this bc my husband would not indulge my whims re coop building until I got Spanish chickens. So...to get the chandelier installed, I had to do what I had to do!!

Congrats on the 9 that hatched!! You're looking for a little triangle shaped shadow, that would be an internal pip, you can't always see them and it does seem as though you're unlikely to have more hatch but I have heard of them hatching as late as day 25.

Even if the blue egg gene is coming from an Ameraucana with a pea comb? I know the genes aren’t 100% tied together but I thought it was highly likely to be linked.
