Too Early for Feb Hatch-A-Long Thread??

Wow that sounds amazing. If it weren't for the fact that my whole family is in VT I would be very tempted to move lol. Unless everyone moves with me though not sure if I would be able to go.
Most of my family still lives in New England, but my parents live in Virginia. I talk to everyone on text 😂 my husband's whole family is in New England but he said that family is where I am and he calls them weekly.

Update--although unrelated to hatching, so nobody panic!! I got an email from RBA re: my concerns about bidding. They asked for the username I was concerned about while simultaneously giving me a "lesson" on proxy bidding and informed me I really couldn't know what purchases this person actually bought. I replied that it was probably reasonable to make certain assumptions based on their feedback, and by looking at bid histories on listings. Who knows? I'll probably be thrown off the site!! LOL

Wow, so because you actually pointed out that there was possibly an issue they were missing they may ban you??? That would be unfortunate...

I mean, look. I know nobody wants to be the person who throws a user off a site, and nobody wants to think there might be fishy stuff going on their site either. Their first line of defense was to tell me there was no way I could know if this user didn't actually make a purchase, and I'm thinking: if you LITERALLY look at who wins, it's not that guy. But, I stayed polite in my reply and just said that I was committed to breed preservation, and it would be a shame if confidence in bidding was undermined by certain user behavior. :idunno

So what are they doing just bidding really high and then not buying?

No, what they are doing is bidding on every non-reserve auction, so basically if you see 8 listings for live chicks with a one dollar opening bid, they go bid everything up to $40 which, in essence, guarantees sellers a minimum of $40 and forces other bidders to fight it out OVER that price point that the user has established. What I am saying is that seems like a lousy thing to do. Now, it's one thing if you just happen to have a budget and refuse to go over it, but it *feels* unlikely that this person really wants literally every auction for chicks. My justice-minded nature will probably not win me any friends in this.

That's why I don't want to do any type of auction because I have heard several people talk about almost the same thing happening on a lot of egg auctions and chick auctions.

you know, it's something i have never really experienced. eBay is really straightforward in my opinion and there are so many auctions that it's probably either harder to cover that much territory or there's so much malfeasance that nobody notices LOL. generally I've been able to get eggs much cheaper from the same farms when on eBay. I don't know. Who knows where all of this will end up.
