Okay so after a couple epic hatching fails I decided to give it one more LAST TRY. I told my mail carriers that I was ordering eggs and let them know that if these eggs were to break in their car they would have to ride around all summer with the smell of rotten eggs in their cars. They have handled my packages like porcelain dolls since. Well I ordered eggs from 2 different people in 2 different bordering states just to, hopefully, peg down locations with rough handlers and hopefully get something to hatch. On the Appenzeller Spitzhauben, I ordered 10 and though I better order 10 more just in case. They don’t get shipped at the same time but I was prepared with 2 incubators up and running. So the lady 2 extra with each shipment. First shipment went in to lockdown last night at the end of day 18. I’ve done everything right this time. The humidity, turning, leaving them alone, etc. of the first 12 all of them were fertile. Every. Single. One. Okay that had to be good luck or something. One died in shell day 17 or 18 so I have 11/12 that made it to lockdown. It’s day 19 and I have several externally pipped and zipping. What? I’ve double triple and quadruple checked my dates. I’m accustomed to them hatching like several days late but never early. The second batch of 12 I had 1 scrambled but otherwise 100% fertility and haven’t lost any so far. Not counting the scrambled egg, that means 100% of my shipped eggs have made it to at least day 16. Now the the big question is should there be external pips and a partial zip at day 19?I candled them last night and told my husband they looked close but then after the last few times had to stop myself and say probably not. Well what if they hatch too early on their own and there is yolk still hanging out? This egg hatching stuff is going to drive me to drink!
