Age is approximate. Just wanting to let them out for fresh air and exploration. It's 67 and sunny down in lower Alabama today. :)

yes thats fine. You can leave them out aslong as theyre exploring. If they begin to look cold you can bring them back in

Don't tell but I let mine out when it's sunny with little to no wind even if it's not terribly warm. They were out today at 47 degrees. I just keep the door to the brooder open so they can dash back in if they want. I've been telling them that time is up and herding their reluctant fluffiness in before they were done exploring every time. I'm starting to believe that they don't need nearly so much coddling as we think.

Yeah me too! They made it this far in the evolutionary chain... surely a little "field trip" won't be bad for them. :)
But my fiance was banging and building their coop while we were outside, so they weren't having the best time. Lol mean daddy!

Hi, I just got four chicks and I have no idea how to care for them. I was wondering if you could tell me the breed and the age and how how to care

Not sure on the breed. But the best advice I've gleaned on baby chicks is the temp. If they're quiet for the most part you know they're happy. Keep their heat light on. Got a thermometer?

Yes sorry for the late reply. They seem happy now. Also they manage to get their poop all over their feet and yes I do clean the cage. I have been cleaning it off, should I continue to do that?

Yeah when things get smelly you can lay down new pine shavings. Once adding new doesn't help, change it all out. Once a week maybe?

Keeping chicks is stressful but not to complicated. I keep mine in clean shavings, feed, water, and heat lamp until they are fully feathered. They will let you know if they are to hot or cold. Mine scream if they run out of feed/water for a few minutes. As long as the cage is kept clean and the poop is not building up on their feet than I would not worry about it. If they are walking around in clean shavings then the poop should fall back off. I have 31 chickes from 2-4 weeks old and 4 call ducks and 3 mallards(4weeks old) all together and they have clean feet! They are in a huge horse stall though.
