I have 8 young hens, and only 3 are laying yet. Tonight I cracked open 11 eggs and all of them had double yolks. Why is this happening? Thanks everybody!

Are your hens sex links or higher production breeds like leghorns? They often will lay double yolk eggs. They are ovulating more than once a day close together so the yolks get incorporated into a single egg. Generally it evens out after a bit and you should see them less.

I have 2 purebred Australorp and an Americana that are laying right now.

They are generally not the breeds that will lay multiple double yolk eggs, but it isn't unheard of. What are you feeding? In many species of animals diet can be later to cause multiple ovum to be released at a time. Could be their diet.

It should all straighten out within a few weeks generally.

They just switched from dumor grower to egg maker 15 layer 2 weeks ago. Could be the change in diet...

How long have they been laying?
Birds came from a hatchery?
The 'Americana' (most likely an easter egger) may have been a cross with a high production bird.
