Too many eggs! Suggestions?

Consider selling some of your hens. I am assuming that they are all close to the same age. The problem with that, is they all get old at the same time, and pretty soon, there are a lot of them not laying very much at all.

IMO - a healthier flock, is 1/3 pullets coming into lay, 1 year old birds, 2 year old birds and one or two 3 year old birds. Then you have a few birds moving out of the flock, and a few moving into the flock.

By reducing your flock, you reduce the number of eggs, reduce the feed bill, and get a multi generational flock, which tends to have a better chicken society and healthier as it is over all a younger flock.

I give eggs to a person at my gym. And while you can't always donate to a food pantry, there are a lot of informal ways to get a few dozen eggs to families who would benefit.
I asked my SIL if she needed eggs this week, know what she said? The Bread Shed GAVE her 7 dozen eggs last week! Did it again back in November. I said, what?? Just you, or other folks too? She said, EVERYBODY. And there were 15 dozen left over so we took them to our church and gave them away there. And I'm thinking, this does not bode well for the BYCer...

That’s too bad, I’m near kc but I’m down around Springfield often. I’ll keep buying eggs from shady Craigslist ads until mine start laying lol

I love making German Pancakes when I’ve got excess eggs. But I must admit 60-70 is a lot to start with. You’d have to make a lot of these!
